I had the same issue, with a Saiga in 5.45 a few days ago. My FFL threw a hissy fit at the mere mention of one, and called me a variety of unsavory names for even daring to conceive of bringing an "Assault Weapon" into CA. Never been hung up on so quickly before in my life.

I just went to another FFL, who was more than happy to accept my business. Cannot fix stupid, unfortunately. Sucks you've had to deal with this stuff, though. Lots of folks seem to see an AK and immediately think "dangerous evil weapon" without checking its legality - I wish FFL's were immune to this, but they are not.

Good that it's sorta resolved, though.

The thing is, this FFL agreed to it before hand, and he even advised me about an auction for one on Gunbroker.com. Then after I purchase it, he says I shouldn't purchase it without talking to the DOJ. Someone in the thread where I found this great price for the IZ132 had a similar issue, contacted the DOJ, and they told him to find another FFL who knew what he was doing.

      Best regards...

          Find a new FFL.

The FFL wanted YOU to contact the DOJ

Should have just told the moron that you spoke with a rep from the DOJ and he said you were good-to-go.

At least it wasn't a de facto prohibition of a firearm that's not even legally considered an assault weapon in California. I worry about those closer to the line, the ones with the "evil features" that require a bullet button! How can a rifle be worse than a handgun for an FFL to handle besides?!?
