7.62 x 54R junk ammo question

Few weeks ago I bought some ammo here on the site and I did not inspect it closely so test shooting revealed rust and cases cracking. I pulled a few bullets and sure it was rusting from inside out. Is there a faster way to pull bullets other than the hollow plastic hammer ? I would like to save the powder and the bullets....yes I have to filter the rust out of the powder.
What is the proper way to dispose the cases with the live primers in them ?

The recycler won't take them, if they notice.

Dangerous how? Your not striking the primer. Done this plenty of times, nothing to fear.

After pulling the projectile and dumping the powder, squirt a little bit of wd-40 into the primer and let sit for a few days before throwing away. Or if you get real bored and want to clean your rifle just fire off the primers into a wet towel.

It's not dangerous at all, it won't hurt anything. No primer strike? No problem.

Okay, if you want a different, simpler, non-bullet scratching and non-shock inducing (to the bullet AND your arm) option, look at 10:25 and on in this video:



I use this method all the time, and it's really easy, especially with rusty cases since they're already weak.
It took him awhile and it was "hard" because he wasn't putting his elbow into it. You aren't trying to save the case, so it doesn't matter how much force you use to pull the bullet as the case will be dumped anyway.

Chuck a round in the vice with the bullet pointing out the side, use a once fired casing (have 60-70 on hand if you are gonna take apart 800 rounds, they deform after a few times), put it over the bullet, and then crank the casing around hard a few times. The bullet will break the seal and really loosen the crimp, allowing you to just pluck the bullet out of the case and pouring the powder into a jar (great campfire starter, or reuse it if you can find the burn rate). Spray oil into the casing so it kills the primer, then dump em.

I did 100 bad cartridges in around 10 minutes that way.

One by one is the only way I know.

Sucks I know, but it would suck more if you loaded them incorrectly and then had to pull them (trust me).

As far as recycling the powder, I wouldn’t personally. Not worth the time to “filter” the rust out.

Set up a hard surface out in the yard, netflix on the laptop, and have at it. You’ll be done in no time

Buy an inexpensive RCBS press. PM "Denverduck" here at Calguns. He can set you up with a used press for a GOOD price.

Then buy a professional collet bullet puller for 30 bucks.

Without buying a press and a puller this is how'd I'd do it.

I mis-loaded 250 rounds of .223 and used the hammer to separate them. Sucked big time, but got it done without damage.

Cases are rupturing. Thanks for the Mosin's tough clambering they cause no problems but some rounds fired like a flint lock black powder ...half second delay
