Why only Trade and not Sell?

I'm just curious, why do some sellers only look for trades and not a cash sale?

I'm guessing it's a way to maybe get more than what it's worth then the a cash price?

I get bummed when I come across listings for trades only since I have a small collection and nothing to trade.

Cash can easily get wasted on stuff like rent or food.

Or sometimes the gun you want is not easily found in CA, so you put your high-demand gun up as trade bait in an effort to get what you want. If I want to buy an HK 911, selling my gun gets me no closer to buying the HK. So I put my gun up for trade to try and pry the HK out of someone else's hands.

Avoid the hassle of meeting two seperate people to finally get what you want. / dot really want to get rid of something but if you get something to inmidately replace it, it feels a little better... Haha

It is a way to get better stuff and keep the wife off your back she can't take your gun but she will take your money.

I just traded my RIA 1911 for another handgun.

            The Reason?

If I sold it and searched for what I wanted, the few hundred dollars from the sale would be spent on bills, food, etc... and keeping track of things would get messy. Doing a straight trade, I have my gun, ammo, and accessories right away (aside from the 10 day wait) and don't have to worry about money. It's a very care-free and relaxed feeling when you trade firearms because you don't have to worry about money.

You can always ask the seller for a sale price. I usually provide a price to members who ask nicely through PM.

If you have something rare and desirable you might be able to get something rare and desirable for it. Everyone has cash so once you sell your rare and desirable piece, now you have no leverage.

Because money disappears quickly... When you trade the money doesn't disappear...

For some it could be part of the hunt ...

For others the price they would put on a firearm would make others cringe ...

Sometimes money is not the goal ...

I have some 91/30's I would be willing to part with but what would the $150 really do towards getting another gun ... But maybe I could find some one willing to trade an old school bolt action 410 ga

Collecting is a "hobby" for many here and the "Want to Trade" just makes realigning ones collection more fun and interesting I suspect ....

I sold my AR for $2,000. Then when it came time to get one that I wanted which was about $2,500 I only had $1,000. Having to come out of pocket for another $1,500 didnt feel right. So now its trade only or will sell AFTER I get what I want. Now if I have something for trade only and someone makes me a crazy cash offer I can't refuse then I will break this rule.

Because it is easier to make the transaction fair. For instance, I bought a Russian SKS many years ago, in all fairness, I would feel ok trading 3 mosins for it. In, in my mind that would be fair. To often in today's world, fairness is not an equation in business deals. And no, I do not want to trade my Russian SKS. lol

If you have a really desirable gun you can get people to trade you for what you want and cash. Added value i guess.

THIS TOO. I always like seeing the offers I get, even when it's sale only.

I have mags and a glock upper for preferred trade, I would like to buy a diff upper or some specific mags
To buy the upper I wan, it would cost me I think 350 or so, where selling the one I have for that price probably won't work, same with the mags, to buy the mags I want they would be 35 each more or less, selling for 35 probably not likely. So, trade works well for both parties I think
