Light on gun or light and gun

For home defense if you had your choice would you have a light/laser mounted to your gun or light and gun separate and why?

I want to be able to use the light in a non-threatening fashion in case its a false alarm situation

      Light on gun.

Free's up a hand and is one less thing to worry about grabbing.

I'm not fond about how that sentence ended up sounding...

Mounted 4me. Maximize the mechanics in movements and minimize multitasking. Free's up my reloading hand too.

I encourage all bad guys to use a weapon mounted light, and always keep it directly in front of their body

This is my choice as well. But limited to one choice, I voted light on weapon (but used sparingly with "bursts".)

Depends on the light. If you get hit in the eyes by a good tac light from across the room when your eyes have become accustomed to darkness, you're not going to be able to aim.

I have a 120 lumen LED light that I carry with me as an EDC, so I always have a small bright light with me. Personally I lean toward the light on gun so you have a hand free to aid in reloading or picking something up etc.

I would favor light and gun..light has a lanyard so if you want to free up your reloading hand, it still is with you. I have kids in the house...I don't want a light on the gun because if I point the light their way to make sure I've identified them..I don't want to "muzzle them" with a light on the gun.

Best would be both, separate light and one on the gun....

Whoa - assuming a handgun (as opposed to shotgun or rifle) theres a difference between a light on gun and a laser sight. If its light on gun I'm old school and want my light in my weak hand, but if the question is laser sight vs sep light give me the laser sight.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

                              I prefer a seperate light,

However a modern bright light weapon light like a surefire, is SO bright that you dont have to point the light to light up a room to id the kids. Pointed at the ceiling will still give plenty of light to see who's there.

Just to put minds at ease about muzzle control and guests/kids.
