Today is was a day to remember for me. It was the day I taught my daughter to shoot a gun. I have asked if she wanted to go with me many times in the past, but she never bit. Yesterday, out of the blue, she asked if I would take her shooting.
It was the first day of many (I hope), where I got to teach her of gun safety. It was a great day in which I didn't argue, I didn't bark, I didn't get frustrated, and I didn't feel like my coaching was dismissed. See, guns seems to be one thing my daughter actually doesn't think she knows more than me about. She was a great student. She listened. She respected, and she really seemed to enjoy some time with her Dad. (Not near as much as I did I'm sure, but it was good) All in all, it was a great day. She learned a lot, and had fun shooting. I must say, I was VERY proud of her. (and she was proud of herself too). She turned out to be a pretty good shot too...

We started with the overview, and basics. I rented a Walther P22 for her to start with, as I didn't want to scare her off with the .40 or AR-15. I showed her all the parts of the gun, and how ever thing worked, and she was genuinely interested. She shot the Walther, and got used to everything. She was a good aim, and really tried to make good shots.
After that, she wanted to shoot my gun. Step up to the .40...
Her reaction was classic. But she gave it a chance, and after some coaching, she tried again...
I wish I would have let the camera roll another 10 seconds. She was super excited because she hit the bulls-eye.
Then we moved on to the rifles after this. The first couple shots on the AR-15 startled her a bit. I think shooting right next to the wall was a bit much on her. But she ended up really enjoying this gun.
All in all, it was an awesome day for Dad...
