hypothetical Q'. what would you do?

What would you do in this hypothetical situation?

You're in your apartment browsing CAlguns.net. All of a sudden you hear gun shots outside and you quickly rush to take a look from the second floor of your backyard balcony. All you see is panic with people running away from the elementary school that's across from your place. You then look closer and see a guy with a gun shooting at people and kids in the school yard. Your next instinct then was to run and grab one of your rifles and the options are: rem700 BDL .308 w/3-9x scope/ sp M1a socom w/552 eotech / just partially built OLL no magcatch installed/BB in the mail (upper is not installed at the moment) but have standard magcatch on hand for future out of state shooting-6.5grendel w/3.5-15 NF optic&bipod.

Say you grabbed the OLL slapped on the standard magcatch &upper and dropped into prone and zoomed in on the shooter in the schoolyard. By now you can see that he's already rounded up a dozen or so of staff members and kids and had them lying face down in the ground. Accessing the shooters arsenal, it looks like he's carrying a backpack with a slugovered pump shotgun and yielding 2 handguns (possibly glocks). Also it looks like he's got light body armor on as well. You then see 2 more shooters show up. One with a handgun&armor and the other a semiauto hunting rifle w/optic &armor. You have 3 loaded mags for the 6.5 OLL.

By now the suspect starts to shoot the hostages excecution style.
Your balcony provides a good field of fire with some degree of incoming fire cover and position is hidden so that your shots are difficult to locate. Shooting range from your position to the shooter is approx 100-120yds. You now then JUST realized that you've just built an AW But THIS is the Best setup you have for this situation as it shoots 1/2" groups easily all day and reloading is still faster than the boltgun even with a BB installed. The m1a has CQB optics and reloads the quickest but the optics.. and the remmy only packs 5rds+1 that'll only shoot standard hunting groups at 100yds

    What would you do-HONESTLY?

    A. Go for it
    B. Wait for the cops
    C. Take cover and forget everything
    D. Post up on CALguns for what to do
    E. grab the video cam instead

If you picked B,D,E this is what happened next.

For the next 5 long minutes: All hostages including the children were killed and the shooters continue to shoot at other people nearby. 2 squad cars finally showed up and a standoff begins until swat came in and eliminated the threat. total civilains killed 25. total seriously injured 30. LEO=no injuries/deaths.

dont waste precious seconds assembling the ar, shoot with the rem700 from the elevated position. even if you only wound him, you will have stopped or slowed him down alot. he might shoot himself once hes taken a hit.

a ok plan now is better than a perfect plan later. shoot immediately, and save lives, even if you have to tag him with a 22lr.

EDIT: also, you cant trust a gun that hasnt been zeroed and is still being assembled. another reason the rem700 is the better choice.

The upper belongs to a buddy that you've just bought from complete w/optics and you had been shooting it on his lower a week before that's already zero'd in. And remember that more than likely if you just wound the shooter, him and his partners would probably rapidly shoot the hostages on site. Also racking the bolt in between shots with ONLY 5rds in the internal mag will not be as effective as a precision semiauto because every fraction of a second counts in times like this.

I'm not very familiar with the in's and out's of California AW law, but doesn't option "A" with the AR turn you into a Felon?

I'd say, with our current gun laws, you have to take that into account. You could go from potential hero to criminal really quickly. Especially if you have a viable option. Chances are any incoming fire will disrupt the BGs enough to save quite a few lives.

yep..that's the point I was trying to get across. If this hypothetical scenario say happened in a free state and "A" was used, Lives would be save and everyone but the bad guys would be able to go home at the end of the day. So to speak the AW Ban did nothing but handicapped law abiding citizens to where they may be hesistant (PRISON or SAVE LIVES) to save peoples lives with using lethal force.

Very well descriptive dream, Did you ever think about writing a book or working for a movie company. Seriously, if that happen, I will do anything and use anything to save innocent lives. I know I can live with that. I would just imagine that who ever was on the ground would be one of my kids/ someone's elses kid.

At 100 to 120 yards from an elevated position, that Remington is going to be plenty accurate enough to take head shots. If it wasn't, I wouldn't consider it accurate enough to be using it for hunting. Also, I wouldn't waste time assembling a rifle while some goons are shooting up a school. 5+1 is plenty when I've only got three targets. Besides, light body armor won't stop a .308 bullet. The clown with the rifle is going down first because he is the biggest threat to me. Then Mr. shotgun, with Mr. handgun pulling up the rear.

I see the point you're trying to get at but, I'm wondering why you included two other rifles that are capable of doing the job in your original premise? Even if the optics on the Socom had no other magnification than the original x1, That is still a 1moa dot. Doable for the right shooter. Had the 6.5grendel been ready to go, I'd have grabbed it despite possible consequences. Best tool for the job and all that. Besides, no jury is going to convict you for saving the lives of a bunch of school kids. Even if they did, there would be a huge outcry in the media followed by Arnie giving you a pardon.

only hunting/defense ammo is used so the body armor WILL be a problem. 6rds of ammo CAN be enough for 3 targets if the target stays still and the rifle super accurate--which it isn't compared to the 6.5/m1a. Also remember that once your first shot goes off more than likely the enemy will be moving around quickly taking out the hostages and as that was what they had intended to do. The enemy may take cover while shooting at hostages as well and your only shot maybe a hand holding the gun or the top of his head so a hunting bolt rifle that shoots best 1.5"-2.5" off of rest may not be able to pull it off. Then you'll end up having to reload which takes forever because you've missed the target by 1/2". The m1a with the 1moa eotech will do if it was the only available weapon BUT like in this case the ememy is armored up and ur shooting hunting/defense rounds so putting that 1moa dot on the head of the target in a stressful situation like this is very difficult, so you the shooter may end up just spraying rounds at the target if it's behind cover and only a tiny bit of target is shown.

I would grab whatever gun I have that I know is accurate and will put the guy(s) down. Ill deal whith what its considered by law later. Im not completely sure but you can intervene if you or the public are endangered. Now you realy think anyone will arrest you if you shot a guy(s) who are killing kids? Yeah you will be questioned but I highly doubt you will be arrested. Personally I woudl put you down for a metal. As for if you shoot one the rest will keep shooting the hostages Well I think the first guy to go woudl have to be Scope Rifle guy. second would be Shotgun Boy then the Pistol Kid. 100-120 yard shots shouldnt even need a scope. I dont think any of them woudl sit there shooting hostages while someone is taking them out one by one. Either way since they are cowards ( simply by doing what they are doing) most likely they will retreat. Or hopefully they shoot themselves saving all the taxpayers lots of $$.
As for me I woudl have no problem taking the guy(s) out. Any person who takes out their delusions or anger out by killing children simply needs to be killed himself or herself
