    Riddle me this....

As far as I understand, Locked Unloaded Concealed Carry is legal, correct?

Well, what if someone were to weld a pistol lock box to a bicycle frame and were to put an unloaded (magazine out) handgun in it, would it be legal?

What if you walk away from the bike? The bike would be chained up and locked, but would it be legal?

Even then bikes are super easy to steal even locked up. Kinda risky.

    No idea on the legality.

Oh I know risky, I'm just wondering if it was legal.

I'm going to build one of these, it's a Huffy Cranbrook bicycle with one of the engine kits installed, painted up to look frickin cool.

I just wanted to know if it's legal so I could put a lock box on it, and if necessary LUCC.

Leave that locked to a bike rack or pole in public and turn your back on it, and it will be gone in 60 seconds...........with or without a gun box.

And that's why you don't store it outside
I'd store it inside or locked right in front of a place for a short period of time, always within view.
And I'd use my Vulcan bike like (you can't even cut the thing with metal cutting blade on a hacksaw, it would take over 45 minutes and over 10 minutes with a cutting disk and an angle grinder)

And I'd probably never store a firearm in it, I'd more than likely use the box to store important documents and other important items.

The PC exception for transport without 'destination requirements' says, in relevant part " (1) The firearm is within a motor vehicle and it is locked in the vehicle's trunk or in a locked container in the vehicle."

Such a bicycle, with the engine kit, is a 'motor vehicle' according to VC 415 - but does it have an 'inside'? I don't know for sure, but doesn't seem like it does. (Likely same consideration for motorcycles.)

If it doesn't, then the handgun can't meet the 'within a motor vehicle' specification, so one would be limited in the places one could take the gun.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

So, basically, the courts would have to decide if a welded on .30 Cal ammo can saddle box with a micro gun vault inside is an "inside".

              Well that sucks.

Thanks though Librarian, always a great help!

Keeping a gun and ammo in a box welded to a bike that you plan to leave locked but unattended is not a very promising proposition. I advise against it. Carry the gun on your person or get a car (not that a car is that much more secure, but statistically less likely to be the target of thieves). A lockbox on a bike invites criminal scrutiny IMHO.

Know that if your gun is stolen, it will most likely end up in the hands of someone who will use it for criminal purposes.... And quite likely hurt or kill someone with it. I think that leaving a firearm unattended in a situation that is not secure is morally wrong.

                Cheers

Thank you, all very good advice.
I understand the issues, and I don't plan to rairly if ever have a gun in the case, but if a need arises, I just wanted to know if it was legal or not.

It is NOT wise to store anything of value on something as easily stolen as a bicycle.

This is the people's republic of california. If you have to ask if it is legal or illegal. It is illegal and to violate the law would likely call for mandatory double digit year prison term.
