    Transporting a handgun in AZ?

Does an unloaded handgun need to be in a locked container when transporting it in Arizona?

No. You can carry it loaded openly if over 18 and concealed if you are over 21 even as a non resident.
Therefore transportation is not limited like it is here.
This may not be recognized on tribal land.
Federal Gun Free Zones and the 1000 foot rule still apply.

      Are there any firearm restrictions?
Please see below for firearm restrictions:
Businesses serving alcohol for consumption on the premises (exceptions for peace officers and ccw permitees, see A.R.S. 4-229, A.R.S. 4-244, A.R.S. 13-3102)
Polling places on election days (peace officers are excepted)
School grounds (some exceptions – see below) (peace officers are excepted)
Commercial nuclear & hydroelectric generating stations (peace officers are excepted)
Military installations (peace officers are limited)
Indian reservations (check w/tribe, peace officers are limited)
Game preserves (peace officers are limited)
National parks (peace officers are limited) more information available at www.doi.gov or contact the park service regarding pending federal legislation.
      Correctional facilities
Federal buildings (peace officers are limited)
Airports (in or beyond security checkpoints) (peace officers are limited)
Where federal, state or local laws prohibit weapons (peace officers are limited)
State or local government/private establishments or events when asked by the operator/sponsor/agent. Most government facilities will provide a location to temporarily store a firearm. Persons who refuse to leave and/or secure their weapon are trespassing and can be cited or arrested for ARS 13-1502 or ARS 13-1503, depending on the venue (peace officers are excepted)

          Thank you Gentleman.

I'm in Tucson visiting my best friends Mom. He pass away last March.

I'm taking a class tomorrow for a AZ CCW and don't want to walk in with a big Pelican case and look like a dork.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Since its a class I would probably not open carry to it as the classroom will probably be a "cold" room for safety. I would probably bring it in a case unlocked unloaded, possibly with mags loaded but who knows what number they will want you to load to for the different courses of fire. If you are really worried about it get there early leave it in the car and ask the instructor how they want things done. Always best to ask for safety sake then to assume and piss them off from the get go.

Unless there is a Federal, State, local, or private owner rule requiring you to not carry the gun where the class is being held there should be no issue. Since actually shooting a gun is no longer required for the class I don't see why you can't carry it loaded in your holster since it is legal to do that already. You will not be touching the gun during class so no big deal.

                Chaos,

10-4 on safety. I will definitely leave it in my vehicle until instructed to bring it in. The gun is in the case it came in and then I put that case in the big Pelican case. The pelican case allows me to carry all three of my handguns.

Thank you for the sympathies. She is like my second Mom. I love her dearly and I am glad that I have the time to be with her.

My family members in AZ transport their handguns loaded and concealed. I believe that is the correct way in AZ.

My dear friend, you are mistaken.

Az is a right to carry state. You only need to be able to legally possesses a firearm to carry concealed or open. Residency is not required.

"Effective July 29, 2010, the State of Arizona no longer requires that persons wishing to carry a concealed firearm have a Concealed Weapons Permit. Anyone legally present in the state can legally carry a concealed firearm in any location where it is permitted to have a firearm. Under certain circumstances, having a permit to carry issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety gains you certain privileges that so-called “Constitutional Concealed Carry” does not allow."
