Actually, if these efforts focus solely on people who illegally posess firearms then good for him. However, I can see this (especially the anonymous tip line) leading to harassment of law abiding gun owners.

If they would actually ENFORCE the laws and penalize the CRIMINALS in the first place instead of coddling them and letting them back out from technicalities and poor police work, the crime rate would go down in and of itself.

At least he's not going for the wholesale confiscation of guns totally. If these measures start to work, maybe (just maybe) he'll realize the error of his ways!

          (doubtful, but we can hope!)

We could also petition the AG to have a one-way discussion with Newsome...

I doubt it, but that would be too much fun.

Is an anonymous tip enough to get a search warrant in San Francisco?

Completely unrelated question: What's the Mayor's address?

He went on a tirade earlier in the day about the fellow who shot some poor folks dead earlier in the week - blamed the NRA basically. Of course, he forgot to mention the fellow was an illegal alien in our "sanctuary city". Guilty conscience?

does anybody know where the mayor lives, i think he has an illegal gun. I hope swat gets the right man. I could see that now, CA tax payers paying for unwarranted searches.

So he's offering $500 to schmucks that tell the police about people with assault weapons so that the police can go seize them? Well that's a wonderful idea considering that there are tons of OLLs, registered AWs, and other sorts of legally owned guns that the cops confuse for illegal AWs all the time.

Like the police in SF have nothing better to do than chase down a bunch of bogus gun tips. Tonight's news had a story on how they don't have enough money to keep the Sherif's deputies and institutional police that provide security at SF General Hospital. He wants to replace them with security guards. I can see the new rent-a-cops handling the whaked out violent 5150's for the paramedics and ER staff. His big deal "anti-crime" cameras got the plug pulled on any new ones by the Supe's, along with the "Shot Spotter" system. Nobody is looking at the cameras anyway. Let's go chase down some gun leads!
