i voted for the gp100. my buddy just got the rock island midsize 1911 (for a great price) and it shoots....eh, like crap. it's good but it's the milspec sights that make it crappy (this is also kinda a biased opinion since I own a Kimber nonetheless the RI 1911 functions). if you want a 1911 spend the extra dollars and you will love it.
My second vote would be the compact 9mm variant
