    RV defense, around CA

    Hi all,

I'm going to be living out of an RV in spots all around CA, including, unfortunately for my defense, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I'm trying to think of what a good self-defense plan would be, if someone were to start messing with my RV or trying to break in while I'm inside.

Considerations include: domicile protection won't be clearly defined (in some instances, I'll be just parked on the street for the night), it'll be in a vehicle near, say, booze (hey, I'll be living out of this thing).

So far, I'm thinking some combo of a Surefire and a spray. Or a taser or maybe just a good, old fashioned baseball bat.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Of course, whatever the solution, it will need to travel in a vehicle all around the state, preferably with minimal overhead required to stow it for travel and store it.

Bonus points for specific models you like.

If your RV is your home, you have every right to defend it as such. How you choose to defend your home is up to you....

      Fire extinguishers, lots of them.

RVs burn more often than logs.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

A good handgun, and a small safe/lock box to keep it in when needed..?

Let's rule out guns, for right now. I'll get a gun permit, in time, but need a strategy I can put together on short order.

An RV is pretty cramped qjuarters for a bat, maybe a nice Maglight instead?

Pepper spray would be good, but you'd probably gas yourself a little given the confined spaces.

Is there an RV version of the Trunk Monkey?

Pepper spray and a mean cat.. ?

Getting a license to carry a concealed weapon is a good idea, but you do know you don't need permit to have a gun in an RV right ?

              Get a knife.

A good Cane Corso or Rottweiler will watch the rig when you are in the drinking establishment and warn you when you are sleeping that someone may be creeping around.

How do folks feel about stun batons? They seem like one good weapon, given the space and requirements.

I *really* like that Taser X2, but damn if it isn't expensive.

Batons are illegal for the most part.

If you are insistent on some kind of non-lethal weapon (ie, no knife, walking stick that happens to be nearby during the RV invasion attempt, etc), pony up and get a Taser. OC spray is a terrible idea inside the RV; plus, it doesn't alway work very well.

Big 5 has Stevens 12 gauge on sale for $239.Gun Tests just gave it an A rating.Cheap and works.

                              Legal and not so pricey.
