    fixed 10 round magazine?

When an advertiser for a new semi auto center fire rifle says it has a "fixed" magazine doe that mean it will need a bullet button to remove it ?

Yes you are correct. It will need a tool to remove the magazine.

I've heard of 'mags' and I've even heard them called 'clips', which makes me cringe.

But I've never heard anyone refer magazines as 'zines' before.

I'd ask the seller what they mean by it. People often have their own definition of the terms they use.

I have an SKS with an internal 10 round mag. SKSes can be found with detatchable mags. I can see where someone might refer to mine as a fixed magazine.

I'm probably beating a dead horse but I can't find a straight answer anywhere.
I have a CA legal SKS with no "evil" features I bought in CA. Is it legal in CA to remove the fixed 10 round mag and use a "Detachable" SKS 10 round mag?

Since 1989, it's been a felony for a SKS to accept detachable magazines. [PC 30510(a)(11)]

                    Penal Code 30510
As used in this chapter and in Sections 16780, 17000, and 27555, "assault weapon" means the following designated semiautomatic firearms:
                    (a) All of the following specified rifles:
                    (11) SKS with detachable magazine.
