Removing paint from Mosin buttstock/barrel

I bought a T53 a few weeks back, and it came with a bit of yellow/red paint on the buttstock and a bit on the barrel. I'm wondering what the best course of action is to remove it without possibly damaging anything. I have a can of Goof Off, that will remove latex paint. Now im not too worried about the butt pad, but would the Goof Off damage the barrel in any way if I were to use it to get rid of the paint?

Any change in the original condition of your $129 rifle will reduce its value. But if you mess with just one spot, it'll show. Go big or leave it as is. How does it shoot?

I'd leave it alone. Red and yellow ... think about the colors of the flag of the country that made it. It's part of that gun's history.

I never thought of that, the color of the flag.....I just assumed it was some person who accidently got paint on it.

I have yet to take her to the range, but for all intensive purposes, she looks like shes a good shooter. the only problem with her is the paint, and a few initials carved on each side of her stock.
