    Gun stock refinishing

    Hey guys,

I'm refinishing a stock and I need to see if anyone knows where I can get some Tru-oil in the Sacramento area.

I've already tried an OSH, Ace Hardware, Walmart and Home Depot with no luck.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks,

If there is a gun store closer (than Wild Sport), you might give them a call... much more likely to find it at a GS than a hardware store.

Yeah, I saw it at Amazon and I guess I'm not in that much of a hurry, as I haven't even sanded down the stock. Mur, I'm assuming you refinished a stock using Tru-oil, how did it come out? Did you like the results?

chucker, since I live in Elk Grove, I'll try The Gun Room and RCGX.

I was sure that Walmart was going to have it, as that's where I've heard other people have bought it from.

            thanks,

Try one of the Tung Oil Finishes - both Lowes and Home Depot have them. They work just like Tru-Oil but without as much build-up (so I've heard). I've used the Tung Oil Finishes are are happy with them.

Here's an example of a rifle I've used a Tung Oil Finish on:

caldude, that looks great and just about how I want mine to look. Any particular brand you used?

I may have to give it a try with Tung oil.

                thanks,

Tried Big 5? There's 3 stores in Sacramento. I like Tru-Oil. Dries fairly quickly.

No, haven't tried them yet, but I think I'm going there today, so I'll check. Yeah, I heard that about Tru-oil.

Looking around in my garage yesterday, I found some Tung oil, so I may just use it. I forgot I had it from a C&R stock I did last year on a Mosin Nagant.

                      Actually I misread it.

I got True-Tone (T400) from Amazon which is a Tung oil, It is suppose to be the same mix as Behr600 which is now no longer sold here in CA.

I did both my K98 and Garand stocks with it, very pleased

Thanks Mur, I'll use my Tung oil since I have it already on hand.
