I've done the "buy once, cry once" thing and didn't like it. I'd rather spend the extra money up front and know I won't have to replace/upgrade later. I generally don't buy the best of the best, but I prefer to buy above average guns/parts and I'll gladly spend more to buy American vs. the knock off made in China crap.

I agree with this statement. It's the same with golfers. Why do golfers continually spend hundreds of dollars for new clubs, especially those that the big name pros use and endorse. Because they think that just purchasing the clubs will instantly make them better golfers. They don't take into account that pro golfers constantly practice and hit thousands of balls a day, while the weekend golfer spends maybe an hour practicing, if that, right before their round. I've seen some golfers take their clubs out of their car, walk up to the starter, and then walk straight to the first tee. And then they wonder why they shanked the opening drive. It's pretty simple, if you want to get better at anything, you have to put in the work.

I'm sorry, who are you? (just trying to determine if there's some reason your opinion matters to me)

So I'm not LEO or Military, and only shoot paper, steel, tin cans, but would like to be able to defend myself and my loved ones should the need ever arise.

How much have you decided is acceptable for me to spend on my guns?

Is it okay for me to have rifles, pistols, and shotguns, or do you not get that either?

Can I have multiple weapons in the same caliber?

How about optics? Can I buy quality glass, or do I have to shoot Barska, or do I have to stick to irons?

              Sound silly yet?
Too many hobbies, Too little time.

              Mind you, I'm 5'7", 180, with a visible Ab...

Bottom line is it is their money and they can spend it as they see fit. Even if it makes no sense to someone else.
Im option 2 on your list. When I first saw a scar 17 fde I was like wtf is that? Who makes that? After holding it and feeling comfortable with it I decided to try it out. I liked it after shooting it and wanted it then and there.

Really? What kind of 5- and 10-round groups you getting with it?

My daughter was getting 2" groups with our Mark II with a crappy UTG scope. I'm setting her up with my EOTech 512 though.

Are you sure? How much would you like to wager? What are the rules? Can I shoot my own AR? Like this one?

I'll take that bet, where/when and how much is the prize.

not to mention comparing a semi auto and a bolt .22lr is kinda a stupid comparison at its base. I would hope a bolt gun would outshoot most if not all semi-auto's, doesn't mean anything in regards to the OP's post.

Well at least you have hope. The question is; Do you have the green to back up that claim. I don't even have the contest rules yet but I'm always up for a challenge. Anybody else?

Edit: This is spot on the topic. Why spend money on a paper puncher? For better scores, son.
