    AR Optics Input

Hey guys I've got a struggle with my AR optics. I bought a Burris Mtac 1-4x24 scope with the PEPR mount (paid around $500). Got it home and installed and it is a bit heavier than I thought.

I went with the variable optic because I like the idea of being able to reach out to 300 and closer. That being said its a big unit and slightly larger than I thought.

I used to have a Bushnell TRS-25 and it was great, but I always think for some reason I'll need magnification.

Just thought I'd ask for some input, should I return the Burris and go the route of the red dot or stick with the Burris (haven't shot yet, have 20 days to return)?

    Thanks for the input!

Ditched my 1-4x scope for a Aimpoint T1, and twist off 5X primary arms magnifier.

I just keep the magnifier in a cloth flashlight holster on my belt, easy to switch on and off, literally sub 3 seconds from belt to gun.

The 1-4x scoped were just too heavy for my lightweight builds.

I kinda like this idea, thanks man. Something to consider for sure.

Primary Arms ASCC scope looks good.
A bit more expensive is Leatherwood Hi-Lux 1-4x24 CMR for AR. Optics Plannet has a discount on Hi-Lux CMR and a Burris AR-PEPR Scope Mount right now. I just ordered the second Hi-Lux CMR with a Burris AR-PEPR Scope Mount for $379 total ($299 + $79 + free shipment)after all discounts and coupons I got. I can give you my $30 coupon number if you need. I have one mounted on my Saiga and liked it.

If you go with a 1x, I recommend the Leopold Prismatic. The glass and FOV are great.

The other thing to consider is lightening up the mount, search for "lightweight ar scope mounts" I think the ADM mount has a 5oz version. The other thing to consider is just using scope rings, while not taciticool they are much lighter than a solid mount.

If you really like the variable power optics, a lightweight leupold patrol or vx3 will weigh a lot less.

At the end of the day though, my aimpoint is just so much faster and more forgiving than any of the variable optics, the Trijicon TR24 was close, but super heavy once mounted. My aimpoint is 4oz and the magnifier is 7.5oz. 1 pound is a lot to me for an optic ha ha ha

If you think you're going to be doing any 3-gun in the future, that MTAC is the right scope to have in that price range.
If not and you're just plinking at targets mostly at 100Y and under, a red dot only setup makes sense.

I attached a matrix listing scopes models with their weight, length and other characteristics. I found it on the web while looking for a scope. PA ACSS 1-6x is not there since it is a new model. I hope it helps.

Thanks again for the input, I think I may lean toward a red dot with a magnifier just for flexibility purposes.

As much as I'd like to do 3 gun I just don't see it happening at this point.

I have heard good things about primary arms and seeing how they have reasonable price packages for the whole set up I may look into them a little more.

If you're weighing a red dot + magnifier setup vs 1-4x scope, some more info for ya:

Thanks for the heads up, i think I'll take it to the range first while doing a little more research.

I used my medics Eotech to make shots at 550-600 meters along with my acog both.
My experience with AR optics is limited to what the Army offered though so those are all I can speak on.
