Except some thieves steal documents and such for account numbers. those are usually stored in... filing cabinets.

Exactly what I was thinking. I have yet to take burglary report where one of these cabinets was forced open at a residence but I have had them pried open/targeted due to paperwork in commercial settings. I have been to many residences where filing cabinets were rifled through, but again, they were all unlocked. I would think if the locking mechanism on the cabinet works, it could be a viable gun storage unit.

It was a good idea untill they posted it. When our house was broken into they went through our filing cabinet look for ss cards, account #'s ect. Cool idea but probably not best to be implemented.

I really like this idea. Some people on the thread had good suggestions to label the drawers something like "colonoscopy records" or something non-financial.

I think if the cabinet is locked it might work. Same idea as "the club". Deterrent for thieves to seek easier targets. Thief "oh there might be some ss #'s mixed in with those colonoscopy records, damn it's locked, grab that flat screen tv and ps3 and lets bail".

Either way, if a thief wants to steal something bad enough, theyll steal it.

I think that cabinet is a great idea personally..Not saying it will stop theft, but I do like the idea

It's a nice project. You can label the cabinets as "family photos" and nobody would bother to break in.
