    Selling CA handgun to FL

Selling has been covered a lot in this forum, but not my specific question. Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated. I have never sold a gun before.

I am selling my CA registered handgun to a private party in Florida. I understand that FL has pretty much no regulations to speak of. Can I just pack up my handgun (after receiving payment), send directly to the private party or do I send to an FFL? I have found 2 documents that might be useful: "Notice of No Longer in Possession" and "Record of Firearms Transfer Between Unlicensed Persons"--are they useful? Do I have to show or get any special info: like DL, or my original dealer's record of sale or whatever? anything else I don't know about? thanks!

You have to ship the handgun via contract carrier (not USPS) to an FFL in Florida who will transfer it to the buyer. That's Federal law, not state law. You should get in touch with the buyer, find out which FFL they want to transfer at, get a copy of that FFL's license, verify it at https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/, then ship the handgun to the address listed on the license.

Here is the ATF FAQ on the subject: http://www.atf.gov/content/firearms-...censed-persons
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

The above is correct. Another thing I would add is to enclose a bill of sale with a self addressed stamped envelope back to you. Have the FFL get the buyer to sign it and mail it back to you for your records.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

You'll be hard pressed to find a FFL who is willing to send a copy of his/her license to a non FFL holder. You might find one but, a FFL holder does not have to send a copy of their FFL to a non FFL holder and most are smart enough not to do so.

Hasn't been my experience. In fact, the FFL I work with here in Prescott gave me a jpg of their signed license, so that if I wanted to pick something up online I wouldn't have to wait around for him to send it out. Maybe I'm just lucky.

In any case, if they won't send you a copy of the license you should at least get their license number. You can verify the license with the number, then ship to the address that comes up on the EZ-Check.

If the buyer is in the Tampa/Clearwater area, Big Tim's Pawn in Pinellas Park posts his license online and will accept from private parties. He charges $20 for a transfer including the background check.
