Incorporating one's spouse is a good idea, but not always practical. It will depend on the mindset of the woman and her attitudes and outlooks on many things.
Women think differently than men on a lot of things. But getting your spouse to adopt the right mindset to deal with assaults, intruders, attacks, etc. can be frustrating.
Some will show no interest in shooting a gun, not even to protect their own life. Others will accept instruction but if you get into too much detail they get overwhelmed. And somethings you try to teach them may seem overly complex or tedious. For example, why do I need to know how to use a flashlight if I'm going to defend myself from the bedroom like you said? Be prepared with an answer.
I used to chide my ex about "letting no moment of silence go unchallenged". The hardest thing to teach some women is to STFU and focus on the situation at hand, without engaging in a discussion.
