    Gun Appraisal Help

My grandpa recently passed away and in his safe I found a Walther P38 with a stamp date between 1936-1939. Along with the gun there are (2) matching clips with the same serial number.

He also had a holster that is marked 5732 which is close to the gun serial number. As far as I know he has never fired the gun. The gun is in really great shape by the pictures listed here.

My grandma wanted to try and sell it for some money and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm putting my feelers out there to a few websites as well as here. I have looked at gun broker but nothing with matching everything and as good of shape.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Try posting it in C&R forum, you'll get an answer real quick over there.

Blue Book of Guns places it as:
      Walther P.38 Mfg, 1941
      AC-41 3rd variation - 9mm serial # 5015i-9973j
      100% - $1,450
      98% - $1,200
      95% - $950
      90% - $750
      add 20% for matching magazine

Yup, sorry. (2) Matching mags. The internals on the gun are really clean and the slide works good. Im pretty sure that it will fire if need be but I think that it was one of my grandpa's "safe queens".

You have a first series 1941 year Walther P38. They are high on the collectors list. With 2 matching magazines it puts very high. I would not take less than $2000 for the rig due to the mags and may go up to $3000.

Your best place to sell would be over at the http://www.p38forum.com/

Do not shoot it as you could break it and lose the collector value.

It's a beaut! Keep it! BUT I understand if your grandma needs the money. There's more utility for you to sell and pay bills, etc. Someone else can buy it and appreciate it as it's a historic piece now like a work of art.

Sounds like zinfull and glockman19 have good input.

I don't see it worth more than $1,800 with 2 magazines, maybe a collector would pay more.

I'd keep it. Break it down, clean and oil it and shoot it.

Definitely keep Gramps' pistol. He wanted you to have it.
