Here is my youngest son, Rob(24), with his first deer. Only his second time hunting, and the first was about 10 years ago. We hunted D8 all weekend, with no luck, and ran across this fellow as we were leaving. I spotted him (I was driving) and Rob got to shoot him. Last time I gutted anything was 2 elk about 13 years ago, so it was an interesting expirience. New knife set and verry sharp.
We got him about 1 mile North of Davis Campground, right next to Rancheria Rd. at about 5:30pm today.
It was quite a weekend. We spotted 2 bobcats, 1 bear, 1 mountain lion, 5 doe(one with a fawn), and 2 bear cubs(some how I missed seeing the mother).

Update:
Well, Saturday my son got the meat back from the butcher shop. 85# of deboned meat. Mixed, sausage, burger, chops, backstrap, and one roast. Decent size for a California deer. Good for a first timer.
