So I finally took my 12 and 13 year old nieces shooting and they did a fantastic job. I was so impressed with them and they had a great time. Now I need to teach them to clean all my guns and I'll have it made.
I used a Browning Buckmark and went over gun safety and rules before we went to the range. I had them practice unloading a "loaded" firearm using dummy rounds. I then had them practice loading it with the dummy rounds. I then went over the range rules with them.
I went to the first range and we weren't allowed to shoot because I am not their guardian and my sister (who lives across town and had a doctor's appointment) would have to come in and sign for them. We went to a different indoor range and kinda sorta told a little white lie.
The 12 year old went first while her sister waited in the observation room and watched. I set the target at 7 yards and put one round in the magazine and had her load it and rack the slide and fire. Her first shot hit the zombie right in the brain. I had drop the magazine and visualize the weapon was clear. I then had her repeat with two rounds until I felt comfortable with giving them a full magazine. I then had her trade with her sister and repeated the steps with her.
They both were somewhat bothered by the noise of a larger caliber handgun nearby and with the anticipated recoil and noise from the Buckmark until after a few full magazines worth and they stated that they felt more comfortable. I just wanted to get down some of the basics before I taught them anything more advanced. I didn't want to fill their heads with too much information. They are already asking to go again. This is seriously going to her my ammo supplies.
Here is the 12 year old. She just turned 12 about a week ago:

Here is the 13 year old:

They kept asking who the better shooter is so I told them, me:

And also, Christmas is canceled. Hehe.
