    clinton disrmed soldiers on bases

Is anyone else ticked that we’ve all been forced to know the now-dead-and-in-hell piece of shiitake named Aaron Alexis? However livid we may be, I’m sure it can’t compare to the rage the family members and friends of the ones he mowed down must feel.

I joined the service in 1987- firearms were not allowed to be carried back then.

There were exemptions back then; we could store weapons in the base armory without haste, we also could use the base pistol range at times without fuss. Both of those perks went away decades ago.

Considering how many Sailors succeeded in shooting themselves through negligent firearms handling I do understand some of the reluctance to allowing large numbers to have uncontrolled access to firearms.

BUT, as our war-fighters have proven in the last decade of combat, with proper training and constant usage the casual stupidity issues go away.

As ldsnet stated, weapons weren't permitted on base for quite sometime and even before the Clintons. If you lived in the barracks you couldn't keep them in the barracks had to be turned in to the armory.

If you live on base , you can have it at base housing after registering with MPs . If you live in barracks , keep it in armory .
Camp Pendleton still has the pistol range every weekend, skeet & trap everyday and the rifle range for Santa margarita gun club. Not all bases have gone 100% anti

He also closed and sold off a lot of military base's for profit.

I remember having to register firearms kept on post with the Provost Marshals in the 80s, but thats it. Of course that was under Reagan though. Hunting was allowed on post. No one cared.

Way back in the day rifles were stored in racks in the barracks. That was when everyone lived in the open barracks with the rifle racks in the center of the room. I think this stopped in the mid 60s. I know this practice had stopped in 1975 when I joined the Army.

We had those in '73 when I went to boot at NTC San Diego. The racks on the old side barracks were probably left over from WWII. Our rifles were demilled '03s though.

Anybody in the barracks and other post housing needed to keep them in the Armory.
MP's weren't even allowed to have a magazine in their Berettas. Had to get permission to load one in the event it was needed.
                  That was in Germany, 93-95.

Yea that ended when there was a shooting in the barracks in the 1960s. In fact Stanely Kubriks film Full Metal Jacket used this in the final bootcamp scene when Gunny got blown away by Pyle.

Remember leaving the range, "No brass, No ammo Sergeant", and you got checked and rodded.

Clinton didn't sign it either. It was put into being in February,1992 by G. H.W. Bush's Deputy Secretary of Defense.

                            heh

Should've seen the look on the base cops' faces when I laid a G3 down on the counter to register. They really didn't like the idea of me having that in my closet in base housing.
