    camp n shoot

where in northern california can i go camping, and be able to shoot some clays??
I never have gone camping before, and I have no idea where camp sites are or anything. I was hoping for a camping site thats pretty rough without amenities

Can I just go drive out to the hills and camp on the side of the road somewhere and put out a tent?

Lake Camanche, right across the road is Camanche Hills Hunting preserve, they have trap and sporting clays, about three minutes from the lake campground.

Also look at Rollins Lake... Colfax BLM shooting area is real close to it

I'm heading to the Plumas National forest this weekend. We'll be camping close to the Feather river. According to the NF website, shooting is legal as long as you are not shooting from a developed campground or within 150 yds. of a public roadway.

I'm bringing a ton of toys for some target fun!

It's an undeveloped spot, so we're just driving in. This will be my first trip up there with a bud who's been going to the same spot for 23 years straight.

                    It should be fun!

If I knew exactly where I was going, I'd invite you up. I do know it's a couple of miles off of Highway 70 about 15 miles out of Quincy, just before the town of Sloat.

Pistol Range to Close at Knoxville Recreation Area

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced it is closing a six-acre pistol target shooting range in the Knoxville Recreation Area, which lies in parts of Napa, Lake and Yolo counties, because of increasing concerns about public safety.

With this closure, shooting will be allowed only for hunting during seasons regulated by the state of California in the 24,000-acre BLM recreation area. Target shooting and random shooting or "plinking" will not be allowed.

BLM Ukiah Field Manager Rich Burns said the restriction is effective immediately and signs are being posted onsite. The range had been the only part of the Knoxville Recreation Area designated by the BLM for target shooting.

"Restricting target shooting at Knoxville was a difficult decision," Burns said, "but we must address public safety concerns to ensure that Knoxville can be safe and enjoyable for all visitors."

Burns said the BLM will continue working with county governments and other interests in attempts to find a site in or near the Knoxville Recreation Area that can accommodate safe target shooting.

The official shooting restriction notice will be published in the Federal Register. The closure order is under the authority of 43 Code of Federal Regulations 8364.1, which includes penalties for violations, including fines and jail sentences. The order can be obtained by contacting the Ukiah Field Office, (707) 468-4000, or online at http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/ukiah.html
