Is there a public database of gun owners?

I am getting ready to buy my first gun, but I am worried that I will become marked in some kind of public database. I am aware that ATF and CA DOJ will obviously know I own a gun, but don't want the whole world to know...

For example, these are my concerns.

    1. Will a private investigator background check be able to know I own a gun? I work in finance industry where background check is common. Don't want to be discriminated against by potential employers.

    2. When I get pulled over by traffic police for speeding, stop sign etc. Will they know I own a gun? I don't want cops to be unnecessarily rough and aggressive against me for exercising my constitutional rights

    3. Can family members find out if I am a gun owner? Don't want to get stigmatized by my extended family which is anti-gun liberal.

    4. I know that LA City has been mailing new gunowners "warning" letters... Is is troubling that they can access this database...

There is no publicly accessible database of gun owners. I am proud to be a gun owner and I wouldn't worry that someone may find out.

This isn't directed at you OP, it's just a sad state of affairs when one has to wonder if people will treat them poorly for practicing a Constitutionally protected right.

you are more worried about some silly database that doesn't exist than protecting yourself.

If someone doesn't give you a job or a raise because you own a gun you deserve a better job. Your boss should at least want you to be safe and well protected. I mean, you are an asset to him, right?

The CLETS system lets police know what "registered" firearms you have. Not a public database but LE can use it for traffic stop or house call. Currently in CLETS are ARs you bought before ban in 2000, any handguns after 19xx (not sure on this date) and 50 BMGs before ban in 2004. Other long rifles or shot guns don't show up. There was a thread on this years ago. LE replies that the make, model and caliber show up.

No offense to you op, I would disown them if my family thought of me that way. Then again I don't have any anti-gun liberals in my family. It doesn't matter what they think, it's your right to own one if you choose to do so.

I am curious, whats your source on this one? Seems like an insulting thing to be confronted by as a law abiding citizen of the city you live in. What exactly are then warning you about? "We know you own a gun, please do not perform criminal acts with it"
EDIT: Never mind, I found the source in your other thread here.

                              As for the OP's question,

If you live your life as a responsible adult and treat others with respect and kindness, then don't let peoples opinions get the best of you. I am not breaking the law! Education and safety is my #1 priority in the sport and protection with firearms. Stand up and be a proud gun owner of America
