Remote but populated areas often have a different outlook on firearms than more populated areas do. If you feel threatened than contact the authorities. Otherwise let him be.

I agree, if he is just hiking by, minding his own biz, like others have mentioned, MYOB, also depends on the area... if in Alaska, you see that a lot.... remote areas, would not surprise me, I would be doing it.....

Remember this, if you are out anywhere in the woods mountains,etc and there are animals larger than a coyote(coyote packs can be pretty brave also), 'you' are part of the 'great wheel of life' meaning you are part of food chain. Also, you do have to worry about running into 2 legged critters more nowadays....

We are talking California remote here, or someplace you could be that would be considered remote/rural but populated. He's just on the road, not on private property.

If he's not acting in a threatening manner I see no problem. I might let him know that he could land in trouble, I might not, depends on the circumstances and other factors.
