    A question about DROS.

When purchasing a single long arm, does its serial number get submitted with the background check request that is sent to DOJ? What if multiple long arms are purchased at the same time? I know that DOJ supposedly doesn't keep a registration database of long arms sales (yet), but I wouldn't trust them not to keep those serial numbers if they are getting them as part of the DROS process.

Just what information is recorded and where is it retained/sent?

DOJ doesn't get any specific details of your purchase. The DROS only states whether it is a handgun or longgun, and does not include the serial number for long guns.

The dealer keeps a record of your purchase for 20 years.

Until 2014, no specific long gun info is collected by the DROS app.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

          to tag on,

buddy recently bought 3 ar's. 1 was a complete rifle and two were lowers, the LGS made him do two DROS since they said the lowers and complete rifle can't be on the same DROS. Is that correct? i thought it didn't matter?

If the lowers were DROS'd as "Long Guns" as most are then they can go on the same DROS as the complete rifle. The dealer might have been confused because stripped lowers are recorded as "Other Firearm" on the federal Form 4473 while the complete rifle is recorded as "Long Gun" on the federal Form 4473. But California's DROS system only has the choices of long gun and handgun.

They could have gone on the same dros. On the 4473 you can check more than one type of firearm. You can have a pistol and an long gun on the same 4473, but the cali DROS requires a separate DROS for each pistol.
I imagine after 2014, each long gun will require a separate DROS as well. This sucks.
