    Safe anchoring...problem...

I am picking up a safe tomorrow and I would like to anchor it. Only problem is, I have a post-tension slab foundation. Post tension is tightly wound rebar which could slice through the house like a rubber band snapping, if you cut, core, or drill the foundation... Anywhoo, I am looking for ideas on how to anchor this thing down.

So far, my thought is to frame a 4' square area and pour a 6" to 1' thick concrete pad with anchors built into the concrete, then bolt it down to the concrete pad.

    Any other ideas?

Pay the safe company to install it. It can be anchored to your foundation safely, you just have to locate the cables and avoid them.

There was a how-to a few weeks back doing exactly what you are asking to do.

Look in the "Safe, holsters and accessories" subforum (I hope I have the name more or less right, I'm in a bit of a hurry today) here on this website. It has been discussed a few times.

Yes, another calgunner outlines how to do it step by step. Or, you might try Elmers Glue. I love that stuff.

I thought you were going to say you tried anchoring your boat, failed and lost all your guns...

Yes, sniff it enough and you won't care about your safe being anchored.

Outside of pouring your own block or small foundation to anchor your safe, JDay made a good suggestion. If the safe company has invested the money in buying the tools to do an xray, then they might be able to do it for you for a decent price.

Most companies that do X-Rays on PT slabs charge between $400-$600 for the service, which in a lot of cases is more that most of us would want to spend.

Use a metal detector or magnet to locate the iron.

Glue. Nasty *** glue. Cant remember the specific type but glue it tl that, the wall, then frame a cabinet around it (no easy saw access and glue will clog up the blades teeth). It will be part of the house. That all over the base and the safe ain't moving.

A metal detector is all you need to locate the tensioning cables.

Concrete drill + four red heads = well secured safe

Yeah go ahead and drill into the slab.

Some people just dont get it even if its written on the floor in concrete!
