    Peltor Tactical Pro audio plug

I have a Peltor Tactical Pro hearing protector that has the boom mic/2-way communications built-in. It's got a crazy looking plug and I can't seem to find anything on it. I'd like to be able to hook it up to something (anything - phone, ipod, whatever) but need to find an adapter first.

I don't know if it's a Peltor-specific connector they used or if there is some obscure standard out there.

Here's a really bad picture with my camera phone, it's set against my keyboard for some scale.

    Any ideas?

Looks a lot like the connector used in some aircraft headsets called a U-174-U.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but please let us know how you like them for hearing protection. Thanks.

It does look a lot like that one, I'll have to check on that some more. Thanks!

I know there was another thread on Peltor's a couple weeks ago. As for me, I haven't had a chance to take them to the range yet. I'll let you know when I do.

I was trying to figure out what the fatty connector was for also. Seems like they may be for a PTT switch that Peltor sells.

How's the tactical pro working for you? I like the NRR ratings better than the Tac7 or Comtac, and it looks like they come with the gel earcups that cost extra on the other models.

How's the seal and comfort on the earcups?

Seal and comfort are a lot nicer than the ProEars that I had previously. The ProEars started to hurt after a couple hours (I wear glasses also). The Peltors are much more comfortable.

For anybody who cares, I talked to Peltor and it sounds like they are using a version of the U-174/U connector. The lady told me it's a "J-11" and is a standard plug and said it should work with some aircraft systems so I've set out to build my own adapter to a standard 2.5mm cell phone plug. We'll see how it turns out.

Thanks for the help, especially to Dr Rockso!
