I ask CHP and the officer stated as long as the handgun is locked unloaded inside a locked container, you can place the locked container anywhere inside your vehicle while transporting the firearm, that's include trunks, underneath seats, inside glove compartment

Just got the truck used, '01 F-250 Superduty 7.3 it has the Bucket seats and a huge console thing in between. The opening on top of the console is small so basically you have a tiny opening into a huge cavern and that cavern is dark and you cant really see inside all that well. Maybe I'll rig up some kind of interior light. Mostly I just want to be able to lock stuff up out of sight and this will work fine. Installation was quick and easy. Its not a steel box but rather a three piece deal. Two vertical legs that bolt to the floor and then bolt to the horizontal lockable upper. So I assume that any determined person could just bash your console to pieces and get in. It's somewhat expensive for what you get I feel. I went for the four digit combo which added $35 to the cost. $294 instead of $259 shipped free.

        Just like this

That is to say, of course you can physically carry a handgun in a glove box or utility compartment; absent LTC, just be prepared to be prosecuted for it.
What I meant to say is; a locked container like a gun vault that is exempt from 25400 is still exempt if placed or mounted within a glove compartment. Its location and mounting should not change the fact that it is a locked container that is not a glove box or utility compartment as defined in 16850.
I did not mean placing a gun in the glove/utility compartment without a locked container.

What do you mean 'locked ... inside a locked container'? I thought compatible with the law was:
            1) in a locked container, and
            2) no ammo in the chamber or in an inserted magazine, but
            3) (possibly questionable) ammo in the same container.

The firearm doesn't need to have a cable lock, or somesuch. Correct?

              Ah. That's all right then.

              (3) Ammo in the same container is fine.

              Otherwise, yes, correct.
