This post belongs in General gun discussions.

All PPT cost the same by law. Check out http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/ for all your applicable information, as well as reading the forms Legal postings.

Do you have guns to sell? Post pics and location. Folks with offers can and will suggest an FFL in a mutually beneficial location.

To answer your question - they all have to charge the same by Law. $35 per individual transfer with some economy on multiple transfers at the same time between the same 2 parties. Again - check out http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/ for more details.

Post your sales. What ya got?

BUT, some dealers charge a $10 or $15 'storage fee' for the 10-day waiting period, which seems to be legal as long as they disclose it as such in advance. That's a reason some dealers cost more than others for a transfer.

That is illegal if it is a PPT

Perhaps, but isn't the issue of transfer germane to the issue of sale in the state of California?

Why not have a sticky at the top of this forum so that there is a simple go-to thread that can he helpful to ALL who are interested in the issue of transferring their firearms legally through the "Private Firearms Sales" process?

I think that would be a really nice touch, but your mileage may vary.

Tell us which part of the Bay Area you're in, and we can help direct you to the reputable FFLs near you; you didn't mention if you wanted to do private party transfers, or have FFL-to-FFL transfers done. The price difference between these two types of transactions is large; PPTs are $35 by law, but the latter transfers can run up to $125 depending on where you go (and some won't even do them).

Sorry about the confusion. I was asking about FFL to FFL transfers. I am basically looking to see if it is worth buying out of state and shipping to an FFL here. This probably won't be cost-efficient for something less than say $350, but for guns in the $1000 range (or higher) it is probably a good idea, after you factor in local prices and sales tax.

SF Bay are for me is basically a triangle - from east bay (Fremont, Union City) to South Bay (north SJ, Milpitas, Cupertino, Campbell) and then running up the peninsula to - say San Mateo.

                Thank you in advance.

HERE is a good place to start looking for your local FFL and the fees.

I don't live over on the peninsula, so I can't make a recommendation.
