Now, why didn't I think of that?

      Oh, yeah. I'm a lawyer.
It doesn't matter how scary, ugly, uncomfortable, or inconvenient self defense can be. Like it or not, you will never, ever be relieved of your duty and responsibility to defend your life, your family, your country and your freedom.

How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.

The government does not come knocking at your door. It comes knocking down your door.

Is that an Isle of Man Flag down by the Union Jack? weird you don't seem them everyday.
The odd thing about people from the Isle of Man is that the speak on the inhale, not exhale like everyone else.

That could be an "at home" option. When you leave, you put it in the safe.

In any case, the gun I'll be placing in that cabinet will be something disposable, something I use frequently at the range. Probably mid-range (less than $2000) semi-auto shotgun like a Benelli M2 or a AR-15. It'll be something I won't miss if I ended up using in self-defense and has to be surrendered to the police for extended period of time (or even permanently).
Could be made out of steel.. bolted to the studs in the wall and use some sort of hidden lock or magnetic lock..

I picture a shorty shotgun in there

I think I could make the case without any problem but I am not very artistic so I don't think the paint would come out the way I want.

Was at Hobby Lbby yesterday getting some pinewood derby stuff for my son and they have a lot of pics, etc using the boxformat. For a pistol, I could see it working with the ones I quickly looked at if you added a hinged back. For rifles, they may have them, but I didn't look.

                        They were all 50% off.

I would use steel and have a lock designed to hold it in place with long lag bolts behind the rifle when it's locked into place.
