NO... The biggest fear ANY outdoor range in So. California has is FIRE! Steel core has a high propensity to spark when hitting rocks... starting fires. Additionally, allow steel core ammo and there will always be enough dumb ****swho decide its ok to shoot at all the range steel on the range... totally oblivious that they are destroying the steel...

The xm855 is a great round. Just salt that away as your SHTF ammo. Buy lead FMJ for the range.

The range I shoot at has no restrictions. But it's a members only range out in the desert where fire isn't much of a problem.

I believe that you can at Raahauge's in the Corona/Norco area. As for the rest of the local ranges....well that would be no. I think that it could actually rain for 40 days and 40 nights and they still would not allow it to be shot.

I thought places like Lytle & Burro(Maybe Angeles?) allow it during the wet season only?

Last time I went to Lytle, they told me it was OK in the winter.

              Never OK at Burro.
It doesn't matter how scary, ugly, uncomfortable, or inconvenient self defense can be. Like it or not, you will never, ever be relieved of your duty and responsibility to defend your life, your family, your country and your freedom.

How much ammo do I need? Enough to last me the rest of my life, and then lot more for later.

The government does not come knocking at your door. It comes knocking down your door.

I would definitely call in advance. Haha I'm not sure on that second part. I might be getting an AKM-74 before the year's up so I hope they would let me this coming Winter. Raahagues works too, though. Closer but with a more pricey range fee. Does Angeles have the same policy as Lytle?

If there was one local to the LA area, it would be a gold mine. As others have said there are some ranges that allow steel ammo during the rainy or wet season.

I think South Bay Rod & Gun iis good to go on steel core. Better check before going though.

Never had anyone at Raahauge's mention any thing about ammo restrictions while I've been there. OP, it never hurts to call and confirm, but I suspect they'll tell you you're good to go.
