    Why no 80% Glocks?

So how come someone hasn't come up with an 80% Glock yet? Or a mold that is sold with a bag of plastic/fiberglass chips that can be melted and poured into it?

If there are 80% AR receivers in polymer, seems like a Glock can't be that far off.

Probably because the glock itself is a bit more complex then a simple designed lower which is a block of aluminum or plastic that can be simply milled out very easy with side to side and vertical drilling.

Isn't there metal and stuff molded into the lower portion of the glock?

Where is that link to that guy who built a glock with metal tubing and slipped it inside and airsoft shell?

Think Sig P250 and maybe the S&W M&P with a removable fire control housing...then the grips, slides, barrels etc. are just parts.

Glock Frames are Injection Molded Plastic so to actually make a "80%" Glock frame you would have to make a special mold for it. Then of course since certain areas are filled with extra plastic compared to the normal frames it would COST MORE for a "80%" Glock frame to be made because of extra material coats.

                Think of it this way:

Machined frames take a block of metal and REMOVE areas not needed.

Injection Molded frames take liquid plastic and ADD material to make the frame.

So the only easy way would be using a 3D printer and special jig to hold the metal sub frame in place.

There is a kit available, 0% for glocks.

You can also make them out of a very specific other item with only a lower kit and a drill and an upper. I am not going to say what though.

I was gonna say... no one likes a glock enough to spend time and effort into making one.

Just so you know, fiberglass doesn't melt well... Anyway, injection molding is actually very expensive if you have a small run. You need to be able to melt the plastic to a consistent viscosity otherwise it might not fill the mold properly. This melted plastic needs to be injected into the mold very quickly (in around 1 second) so that it doesn't cool and harden before it's filled the mold (and to prevent bubbles). The mold has to be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the plastic being injected, so they're cut into thick blocks of metal. Simply making the molds is very expensive, so unless you make a very large run, it's usually not worth it.

If there are 80% AR receivers in polymer, seems like a Glock can't be that far off.
There's probably not much you could do to finish a Glock frame. Drill the three pin holes? Since all the metal bits are molded into the plastic (set in the mold before plastic was injected), there's not much that can be done there...

It's too early for details, but I'm exploring manufacturing these and some other 80% frames.
