Transporting Ruger Mini 14 From Oregon

    Hi all,

My son has a Ruger Mini 14 in Oregon, 10 round mags. He is a resident of Oregon. Is it legal for me to drive it to California and keep it here in CA for times when he flies over to CA to go shooting? Thanks

pretty sure California wants it registered here if the rifle will be living with you. I'd imagine you could bring it into cali (in a legal configuration of course) and then print out and send off the intrafamilial tranfer form to the cadoj along with the 19 dollar fee. Im not 100% sure about the legal transporting of the firearm, but i feel positive that if the rifle will be living here California will want it registered here.

I am pretty sure this is bad info as of right now anyway as soon Brown signs pending legislation that will change.

I apologize if I mislead anyone. I think right now it is not necessary to do paperwork between father and son. I guess I was trying to speak more to having the firearm in the state. Again im sorry if I've misinformed anyone. I like all these rules and regulations just as much as the next gun owner. Anywho...does this mean the OP is good to go? In any event im sure he'd like to know.

Still dont have to have it registered. Doesnt matter if its father to son, or self to self.

But as the poster said above, if a couple laws pass, after 2014, it will have to be registered. But as of now, NO REGISTRATION.

I don't know if you're technically taking ownership of the gun, but he's not a CA resident, and you're transporting over State lines. Isn't there an issue there?

guys, I know theres usually no registration in a case of father to son, or self to self. But I think we're missing something in regard to the out of state thing. anyone have anything to say about that?
