It's always amazed me why people think all you need is a gun for SHTF? If you are buying for "The rifle will be maintained as an occasional Run'N'Gun / plinker, but mostly kept in reserve as a goto SHTF option." expect to pay 3X the amount on gear as you do on the rifle.

Extra parts, like magazines and high failure internals
Outer gear like vest, magazine carriers, LBG

You need to make a list of everything each rifle will need as a bare minimum. Check availability of all items, then look at cost and usability in the SHTF scenario of your liking.
I hear guys all the time tell me they have 1000 rounds of 308, 250 rounds of 9mm and 1000 rounds of .22lr for small game hunting all for a SHTF and I laugh. Better hope you don't have to walk anywhere.
