Polymer Remington Handgun?

Does anyone know if remington will ever enter the polymer handgun world?. They make great rifles and shotguns my question is why they havent competed with springfield, glock, ruger etc...

They only have the one handgun don't they? I kind of wonder why they bothered at all if they weren't going all in.

Maybe the 1911 was just to test the waters for a Rem pistol in the market.

They already have a strong position in the shotgun and rifle markets. They might not want to take on the risk of attempting to compete with pistol powerhouses like S&W or Ruger.

The problem with the polymer handgun market is that you have four heavyweight contenders, Glock, HK, S&W, and SAI, and coming up with a product that's original enough to stand out from the pack, plus be reliable enough to overcome the lack of reputation in the handgun market would be pretty tough.

There are a lot of big names making polymer pistols (case in point, Walther) that will never reach the same popularity as the big four. As it is, Remington probably only entered the handgun market with the R1911 because of the surge in people buying 1911-pattern pistols due to the centennial.

Because they don't need to. Creating a line of handguns is a big risk that Remington doesn't need to take.

If the 1911 R1 Enhanced I owned is any indication of their quality control, they should stick to long arms.

Rem made the 'nylon 66'.***WAY*** before most anyone else played with plastic barbie guns.

It was actually a very successful rifle with in the neighborhood of 3 mil produced.

However, asking rem to build a handgun from scratch with a blank sheet of paper is akin to asking hardley davidslum to build a motorcycle with horsepower, handling *and* reliablilty.....

Everyone has a good point, but I think Remington is fully capable of such a firearm, I'm a huge Remington fan and its something that crosses my mind every now and then...

I doubt it. Remington would what to fill a known nitch of low supply. And there are plenty of plastic pistols out there now. But I think Rimington could come out with their own .357 or .44 mag and be very successful.

Porsche designed the motor since hardley has no clue.

Compare them to the big 4 Japanese companies... Nope.... no handling, horsepower and certainly not reliable.

Remington hasn't had much success with cartridge handguns in the past so maybe they are reluctant to get back in the market again.
