If home owner shoot intruder in the house for fear his/her life. What happened to the firearm. I heard a cop will take the firearm and may not get it back for 6 mos or more until the case is closed. I think they should return to the owner not more than 48 to 72 hours with good conditions.

Could be impounded at the scene, and then released to the owner after the case is dismissed.
OR
It could be impounded at the scene, held during your trial, then held after your case is cleared and used for evidence in your ATTACKER's case.
...or...
It could be impounded at the scene, held until your case is dismissed or no-billed, held for evidence against your attacker, and then held during the attacker's jailhouse appeals.

It could be impounded at the scene, held until your case is dismissed, and then rudely stolen and destroyed without compensation by an anti-gun DA or police cheif. You file suit, the city loses and pays you compensation minus legal fees after a long legal battle...or they win after citing a thin argument in favor of destroying your gun -after a long legal battle.

I think the popo should THANK ME at the scene, maybe drop something in my tip jar, tip their hat and tell me to "have a nice day." While the gun is still in my possession.... Maybe thats just me....
Some people never got their guns back. Even with no charges or charges dropped. There was a guy here on this forum that never got his handgun back (desert eagle if I recall) even though he was cleared of any charges. (not self defence- gun was not fired- just in the vehicle or something like that... I forgot- it was a long time ago.)
So.... If you have a rare or collectable, or something with sentimental value.... DO NOT USE IT FOR SELF DEFENSE! You just might never see it again.
Get a glock. They're all the same. No one "loves *THEIR* glock... cuz one is just like another. Lose your glock, go buy another- big whoop. (I hate glocks, but people cant tell me I'm wrong on that! Oh... you put in an aftermarket whatever drop in part.... and? You mutilated it with a soldering iron and call it tacticool.... Maybe you should buy a new one?)

Don't use an irreplaceable heirloom for self-defense.
It's unfortunate, but this is the political reality in California today.
Trust me in that if you are ever forced to use your self-defense firearm, you will spend WAY more on a lawyer then you will on replacing the firearm.Comment

Yep. Be of the mind that if you use it, you'll lose it. This is why I use nothing-special Glocks for carry and HD. This is also why I have more than one - to immediately replace the one impounded.Comment
