    Beginner 3 Gun Competition Rifle

Im new to calguns.net so I hope I posted this in the correct forum.

I am hoping I can get a little advice. I am in the beginning stages of getting into 3 gun competitions. My questions is regarding my rifle. I currently own a Sig 556 Swat Patrol and I am wondering if this is a good rifle to start with? Should I spend the money and modify it, (new trigger, make it lighter etc.) or start over with an AR?

    Any advice is appreciated?

Shoot whatever you have, then decide on modifications.
    Are you running an optic?
How about your shotgun and pistol?

Most guys run AR-15's, Benelli's and STI/SVI/Glocks. Most important thing is to start shooting 3 gun (assuming you have some prior handgun competition experience). Try X3 at Piru and Pala 3 gun.

SuperSet- Thanks for the advice. That seems to be the general consensus with other people I've talked to. Currently I have a MTec 1-4x optic. That is what I will probable end up doing.

Highlander51-I have some had gun experience and very limited competition experience. Currently my had gun is a RIA 1911 .45, but I am planning on getting a M&P 9 very soon. I do not have a shot gun at this time. I am planning on borrowing one until I figure out what I want and have the funds available.

You're good to go, man. You'll compete in Tac Optics and the Burris MTAC is a great scope for the money. I shoot a Burris TAC30 now and there are several folks doing very well with that scope.
          Welcome to the sport!
