Champion Gun Safe packed with Marijuana

Saw on the news just now that a Champion Gun Safe was delivered to a customer for a $1,700 online purchase. Upon delivery, the buyer discovered 285 lbs of Marijuana packed in 10 airtight bales worth $425,000.

The Champion safe was allegedly manufactured in Mexico through inmate labor (yes, made by Mexican criminals) and shipped directly from Mexico, to online wholesaler, to consumer.

If all of this is true, what does this say about Champion safes (or at least some of the safes)?

1.) Made in Mexico despite being marketed by certain sales outlets as American-Made

2.) Made by convicted criminals through inmate labor. So much for specialized skill and craftsmanship...

3.) Where was the QC? How did it make its way from the Mexican inmate factories to the end user without Champion or seller opening the safe up for inspection?

While this story is entertaining, I'm disturbed because I've spent months researching gun-safes. After a certain SoCal-based safe outlet convinced me that any foreign-made safe was subpar in every way, I agreed to put a deposit down with them for a Superior Safe (owned my the same company as Champion).

Maybe Superior Safes are made here while Champions are made outside US borders, but I'm not going to risk it - I'm cancelling my order and going with a Sturdy Safe.

For sure this was meant for a specific customer, and not one who was buying a gun safe. Somewhere along the shipping route, the safe was supposed to have "dissappeared" from the delivery truck.

Something went wrong, either the guy who was supposed to take the safe got busted, or had a flat tire and couldn't make it to the pickup point, or just screwed up all together and grabbed the wrong safe from the back of the truck.

End result, drug dealer did not get his delivery, pick up man is now dead in the desert somewhere, and cops have their hand on $425,000 worth of 420.
