Best way to transfer a gun collection?

Hello everyone. My friend in California is in need of extra cash and is offering to sell his gun collection that was passed down from his father for a price that I can't pass up. I am in Arizona, and I am wondering what is the best way to transfer around 40 firearms. It will be a great addition to my current collection and I can't pass up the offer.

Any ideas? Will a regular store even do that many guns at one time? Also will I have to wait the 10 days to pick them up from the California FFL?

Pretty sure that he could take them into a CA ffl and have that ffl ship it to your ffl and do all the paperwork in your home town. Ffl's can ship to other ffl's so that might be the best route. Not positive though.

He can ship it to your FFL in AZ. Since you're an AZ resident, you can't transfer them at a CA FFL.

Not sure, if he can drive them to your FFL in AZ, that would be something to find out.

If you have a C&R license, he can ship you all his >50 year old and C&R listed firearms. The rest should be sent to a local dealer in AZ.

shipping on 40 firearms would be a nightmare! If he was driving distance, I'd see if driving them to Az would be legal, I don't see why not.

            It is.

Dave, in California it would be long guns only. In AZ is it also C&R handguns?

Interstate transfers are not legal federally without a FFL.

So say I was to drive to California, pick up the collection, drive to an Arizona FFL, without the seller being there, is that OK?

No the act of "pick[ing] up the collection" would be the illegal transfer Federally in this case.

A CA FFL is not involved in this situation. The firearms must be delivered by the current owner in person or by common carrier to your FFL in AZ.

You then fill out the paperwork required in AZ at your FFL.

There is a member here who has an FFL and lives in Surprise, he might be willing to help you out.

But I can't remember his screen name, can anybody recall it?
