People who've bought from gunbroker question.

If you buy a gun from gunbroker but it comes with magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, can you still get it shipped to california (if you tell the seller to ship it as parts kits)?

The gun I want is on the CA roster and the seller says he will ship to california but the magazine hold 14 rounds.

Yes, as long as the receiving FFL is ok with this, otherwise they will release the gun to you but not the "rebuild kit". Better to ask the FFL beforehand and avoid any misunderstandings.

It's not a gunbroker issue, but one between you and the out-of-state seller. Have them disassemble the magazines before shipping them with the gun to your FFL, and, as stated above, check with your FFl about this. I had sellers replace 15-rd magazines with 10-rd magazines in the past, but I don't know if your seller is a FFL or a private individual.

I have had them come with mags and without. It seems to depend on the seller and if the seller actually understands that they can ship them to the ffl that is licensed to legally receive them.

Have them send the mags to you (in pieces), and the gun to the ffl

Keep in mind that if the receiving FFL requires you to do a safe handling demonstration you will need a 10 round mag for that gun when you pick it up.

Not if you owned a bigger mag before 2000.

Yeah I was worried about this, I picked up a pistol yesterday at turners and they made me do one. But the guy at turners said they no longer do ffl transfers so it wouldn't matter anyways..

Just put a pistol on layaway, from texas. The gun appears on the roster and they are willing to send the mags as parts kits, but what if my local ffl asks me to do the gun safety demonstration test, do I just keep asking around till I find an ffl that doesn't do that test?

Every FFL will ask you to do the demonstration. Bring whatever mag blocker you planned to use and ask them to install it or do it yourself right there. Usually the FFL will charge you a small fee to install it, around $10.

Perfect, thank you. I'll get to looking for a magblocker right now.

It depends on the seller and the CA FFL, some sellers on gunbroker require your CA FFL send a copy of a high cap magazine permit before they will ship, and on the other hand some CA FFL will not give a high cap magazine as a parts kit especially since san francisco sued companies that do sell parts kits.

Well the texas ffl has already agreed to the parts kit, so which ca ffl will accept high cap parts kits? Anyone know any? I'm in socal btw.

Def talk to both sides before even bidding on something.
