Sacramento Area People HELP

So in a week I will be relocating from sweet home town of Bakersfield to Sacramento. And I need to learn of all the sweet spots!
I.e. Shooting ranges, non range shooting areas, best gun stores, ammo sweet spots, reputable gunsmiths.

Please welcome me Sac shooters, let me in with the cool kids for once! I'm tired of being picked last for dodgeball!

Depends on what you're looking for you could find it within a 30 mile drive from downtown.

Best is probably Sac Valley, but it's pretty far. However, they have a long rifle range and you could rent bay's to do holster work. There's qualification requirements and membership dues, but it's worth while checking out. There's also some good instructors out here, if you want to acquire your CCW Sac County is a Shall Issue county.

Ammunition, it's the usual. Walmarts, Sportsmans Warehouse, or online in the Calguns deal section. Ammo at the LGS's are still pretty high, but The Gun Range has some reloads for OK prices.

Can't really help you with Gunsmiths because the ones I knew left town years ago.

I'm not a big fan of the gun room in elk grove. They want u to wait 2 seconds between shots.

OP: Here is a post with a map to most of the NorCal ranges. Elk Grove also has Wild Bill's across from the Gun Room. No range, prices aren't great (not horrible, but not great), service can suck (depending on who helps you), but they have a very good selection (both new and used, never saw consignment there though).

I like Wild Bills in EG myself. He is about the only guy in the region who will negotiate prices, although he hasn't been really doing that during this panic (doesn't have to).

For FFL transfers, use Greg at Sacramento Firearms Transfer. He works out of his home and is thorough and reasonable. He can quote you prices on new firearms as well.

Sac Valley is a good range, basic stuff open to the public but a lot of members only goodies. Drive time is pretty far off the freeway.

The Gun Range is indoor and allows holster work for current CA CCW holders, just ask them. Also rapid fire is allowed. Not the best neighborhood, I try to go during day hours. Finally the Cargo Largo vacant building will be a Wal-mart shortly.

Discount Shooter Supply typically has a good selection of reload supplies. Prices used to be internet competitive, but they have seemed to stray from that recently.

Welcome to Sacramento

I was born and raised most of my life in Bakersfield. Came up here 19 years ago. Only time I go back is usually for the holidays. Gotta grab some tamales at Christmas time.

Anyway, most of the gun shops in the area are listed but the one that hasn't yet is Wild Sports in Orangevale. I know they're notorious for not having great customer service, but don't let that stop you from finding some great deals there.

As far as ranges go, I've been to most except for Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. That's the only range I can think of that might be comparable to 5 Dogs. Of course my favorite has got to be the Gun Range on Watt Ave. Rapid fire allowed and it's really close to home. Almost forgot, they also allow rifles on the range. Just make sure you don't bring any armor piercing ammo with you.

I may be wrong and don't know if there was a change in policy, but when you buy ammo in the city of Sacramento and LA; at least in Sac, you have to fill out a form for the city and may have to produce a thumbprint. I did this last year at a River City guns.

Welcome Ghost! The important places have all been listed. The only one I would add is Tracy Rifle and Pistol. It's about an hour south of Sacramento in Tracy, and is the closest place that I know of where you can buy AOWs, SSE pistols and some of the harder to find stuff that isn't available in town.

The above mentioned gun stores are good. The Yolo Sportmans Associate outside Davis is a descent outdoor range.
