It has taken me a while to get used to the support thumb over the top of the handguard style of shooting. I resisted it forever, but it does work. During a daylong shoot & scoot type carbine class (400+ rounds) we were beat over the head repeatedly to use this technique. A lot of guys like to tuck up on the magwell but the muzzle bounces around a lot more with this hold.
I assume these guys in the video are civilians, but they seem to take their weaponcraft seriously. Pretty dynamic stuff. I'd guess they would outshoot and outmaneuver your average chubb who hits the range 3 times a year and feels like an operator with his overpriced and underused rifle, feeling like Audie Murphy as he bangs a plate at 100 yards from a rest with magnified optics.Last edited by Bobby Ricigliano; 08-07-2013, 9:51 AM.Comment

I'm a High Power Rifle shooter, so I shoot close to the magwell.
But, if I were going to shoot tactical/dynamic/adaptive rifle/carbine, then I would use the extended arm technique.

The straight arm hold helps keep the muzzle on target because of the opposing force (your hand hold) close to where the rise starts from (the muzzle).
The straight arm uses more energy and as time goes on depending on your training, will eventually hinder your ability to hold the rifle. Luckily 99.999999999999% of civilian combat only last a few minutes.
That being said, train as you intend to fight.Comment

I look pretty operator too until someone shoots back. These guys are 3 gunners not operators. My apologies if any have served but running around to cool music and shooting fast does not make you an operator. Good shooting though.Comment
