Is the price is right?

This morning, I went to WM and bought 3 boxes of Remington .223, 50rd/box for $28/box. At first, I thought it was 100 rd/box. So the cost was .56/rd. I remember people on forum, see .45/rd, they said it's too expensive. Did they rang me wrong. This is WalMart we are talking about. It's suppose to be cheaper.

This is first time I buy .223 so I have no idea.

That is too expensive. A good, fair price would be $0.35 - $0.40 per round for those. You can't return them, but I would make sure they rang you up for the right boxes. If not, they should be able to give you a price adjustment.

Are they anything other than FMJ? If so, then it's almost fair.

The answer from the bottom of the page (from the WM link). Based on the answers, I guess that was right amount. Darn, here I thought WM always has good price on ammo.

It's somewhat reasonable for the current time. You might have been able to find some online retailers selling similar ammo for slightly less (S&H usually comes out to about the same as sales tax though), but you don't have to be kicking yourself in the head over it.

Pre-panic, a good price on brass cased 223 or 5.56 ammo was around $0.35 per round, shipped (or taxed). For steel cased, it was more around $0.25 – $0.30.

Nowadays, anything under $0.50 a round for brass cased 223/5.56 is decent. Hopefully it continues to come down though, perhaps even to pre-panic prices? (One can hope.)

you SHOULD be paying tax every year on the amount of out of state online orders (fed tax)

Also, can all brass cased ammo (new) from walmart be reloaded?

I've never heard of brass cases not being reloadable, but I have heard of steel cases being reloadable (though not recommended, as it will wear out your reloading equipment much faster and the cases themselves might only last a couple reloadings anyway).

I don't reload, but I've heard that the imported milsurp ammo that is brass cased and uses Berdan primers is not reloadable because of the design of the primer pocket, which will not accept Boxer type primers which are common here in the states.

Otherwise I should have kept all that 8mm I've tossed for years.

You can buy Berdan primers if you look hard enough.

I was at sportsman's warehouse a week ago and saw .223/5.56 ranging from 20 bucks to 30 bucks a box
