    fyi:called CADOJ

I called CA DOJ to see where my reg. for my handgun was at, left a message and received a call back. The check had not been cashed yet. The person said there can sometimes be a 8 to 10 week processing time (due to back ups, manpower, etc.). They do log the info though and said my paperwork was complete.

Very nice and pleasant caller. I appreciate this being my first call experience.

Just had to do a mailing to CADOJ. DROSed an off roster Shield .40 and the DROS went through as "multi-cal." Unfortunately, I found this out when I went to add my new baby to my CCW packet. Was told by Deputy handling CCW that I could not have "multi-cal" on permit, must re-register weapon as .40 only. $19. payable to CADOJ and form for Firearm Owner Registration was sent yesterday.

I picked up a couple of C&R handguns in Arizona this past August. Sent the registration the day after I came back to California, the check got cashed in late September & got the registration papers in mid May. You might have a long wait ahead of you OP.

Personal handgun importer. If you buy (C&R would be the only legal way to do that) or bring a handgun in from out of state, you must send the DOJ a form and 19 dollars.

When I did an interfam, it took them about 30 days to cash the check, and then another couple of weeks to get a letter in the mail saying that they successfully did the transfer. Talk about a backlog!

So if you have had the pistol in the state for more than 3 years no harm no foul then?

I sold an off-roster gun to a guy, and he changed his mind later that day after we left the FFL. I refunded his money and had another guy who wanted the gun, but we went into "limbo" on getting the gun back to me for the transfer. Started 6-8 weeks of the story changing, waiting for calls from the DOJ, etc. I finally left a message with the DOJ to see if I could figure out why the paperwork was not being processed.

A few days later I received a call from Andra and she explained that the info the DOJ had given my dealer was wrong, and how to fix the issue. Extremely professional and polite, it was a very nice experience dealing with her and the DOJ.

So just change it on the CCW application. The caliber registered with the DOJ means nothing.

When they ran my weapon through DOJ to add to my packet, it came back as multi-cal. The detective was pretty steadfast that I had to have DOJ make the change...guess my county doesn't like multi-cal on their applications.
