    Open Carry in Kern County

Mods, please feel free to move if this is in the wrong section.

I know that Kern County issues CCW's, but I hardly ever go up there, so don't think I need to go through the application process.

My friends and I are planning a camping trip to Kern County in about a month and was wondering if I could open carry. I did some research and it says that open loaded carry is legal, but not in parks. I'm guessing our camping site would be considered a "park", so I was planning to open carry with the pistol unloaded and have a magazine holster as well. Does anyone know if this is OK?

Side question: Would it be considered to be 'unloaded' if I have it Israeli loaded? Magazine in the gun, but no bullet in the chamber?

If I'm not mistaken the state law forbids open carry loaded and unloaded.

We camp all the time on BLM property in Eastern Kern County. We open carry and we have been approached by rangers several times. I've never been hassled about open carry on BLM land, nor in the Sequoia National Forest. In fact, come to Kern County! As long as you're kind and respectful to the Rangers, they'll be kind and respectful back. Myself and my kids have had many conversations with rangers, given out bottles of water, shot the breeze and we always end up enjoying ourselves. All the Rangers ask is that you clean up your targets.

BLM I believe is federal so state no open carry doesn't apply. National parks are another story. There was an entire thread on here that discussed it. Basically the consensus was you could open carry on your designated campsite or in shooting areas. Might want to try and find that thread. I believe it was on the 2A forum.
