Recommendation for a good flash light?

I'm looking for something that I can put on my rifle and use daily? Any recommendations.

I suggest separating the two categories of lights. A weapon mounted light is usually a single output only flashlight (high only), and would not be suitable for general purpose use.

A general purpose flashlight arent usually weapon rated to withstand recoil, and have multiple outputs. Depending on if the flashlight has a memory or not, you would have to cycle to high or cycle down to get the desired output. This cycling is not a feature you want on a weapon light.

In addition, you would constantly have to mount/dismount the light constantly from your weapon. Can you? Yes. Should you? I wouldn't.

Surefire P2X Fury Tactical with a Vltor mount for your carbine. Good kit for less than $150.

I would think a dedicated light for the rifle is a good idea.

As far as a regular flashlight goes, my Maglight three D-cell flashlight has saved my bacon more times than I can count over the 21 years I've owned it (HS graduation present! has it *really* been that long?), so if they're still making them the way they used to, it gets high marks from me.

I have a four sevens mini xl on my keychain. 200 lumens from a cr123a battery. I love it for camping, and it can be mounted on a weapon w I th the proper ring.

you really want to determine the purpose of use....
a rifle light that will illuminate a threat at 100 yards- something that will let you see the hands is a powerful light 300-600 lumen surefure

a 300-600 lumen light is way bright in a home... the splash from walls and mirrors is more than most people want....

a good surefire LED light will last a lifetime.... cry once- buy once

then get a separate light for searching so you are not muzzling items that you have not identified as a threat and worthy of covering with your muzzle
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I recommend going with two lights, a Streamlight TLR-1 for your weapon, and a good flashlight for you. I EDC a Fenix LD20 (the new model is the LD22) and highly recommend them. The Fenix LD series are very reliable, use common AA batteries, and the new ones put out 200+ lumens. If you can't swing the LD22's price then consider the economical but still very good 187 lumen Fenix E25.

jayrob makes the most awesome Maglite conversions. I've carried it for close to 2 years at work and it has been flawless. 1000 lumens, three modes, large lithium ion rechargeables, battery meter.
