"5,000 buns from buyback events melted..."

More than 5,000 weapons collected in various buyback programs were melted down into steel rebar Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The picture is of Sheriff Lee Baca tossing a gun into a pile of thousands of guns, the vast majority of which appear to be wood stocked long guns. I'll bet there are a great many historical gems in that pile, and about zero that were ever used or ever going to be used in a crime.

I just saw that on the news, the newscaster giddily explaining that they were to be melted down into re-bar for a new freeway or something.

I prefer my buns toasted though.

Good catch guys. I decided not to edit my headline because, let's face it, my mistake is pretty funny. Freudian, even. Probably has something to do with what I was looking at on another website

I see the buttstock of a G3 type in that pile. What total moron would give away a G3 for a gift card to Ralphs?

The price of re-bar would skyrocket.

I hope all of those guns were damaged beyond repair and are nothing more than pieces of junk.. if not, those people who turned them in are suckers.

How funny would it have been if the gun he threw went off.

Must be another slow news day as it was broadcast everywhere. As usual, the media gets giddy when firearms are involved.
