    Buyer Beware - Armslist.com

Just got a call from ATF on a trace. Nigerians are apparently running scams on Armslist.com on private sales of firearms. Buyer beware. One of my customers is out $1400 on an M1A they will never see.

It was news to me that the Nigerians figured out people wouldn't western union money, but are more than happy to send cashier's checks or postal money orders which are just as easy for them to cash.

DUDE!! I was looking at M1A's on there and I'd say 90% are scams. It's nuts! Had one guy who was 45min away couldnt meet and wanted to ship. Total joke of a site.

I've had two successful purchases on there. No trouble. Both were for parts though, not actual firearms.

I've sold a few guns and quite a bit of parts and Ammon there never had a problem but then again I use pay pal only send to PayPal address or meet locally. I do cash FTF is my preferred method. I rather sell for a bit less and ftf

That's why you demand to meet face to face. It'll be hard to scam someone with an imaginary firearm when you meet face to face.

I have spoken to more than one online seller posting on Gunbroker or Auction-Arms recently, wherein the scammers are snatching those genuine sellers' photos from their REAL auctions on GB or AA, and using them for their fake posts on Armslist; to make matters worse, Armslist does not seem to be doing much to police it.

I suggested sending the money order to a gun shop close to where the seller was. The gun shop would inspect the gun and either ship it or hold onto the check til I got it. Might cost a few $$ more but if the margin is that small ill be buying locally.

There's a thread for armslist deals in the marketplace! Good to know about the scammers.

there are sharp edges around most every corner today. i recently got a screamin deal on Gunbroker when i made a purchase from a first time seller. nobody else made a move on what was a very low minimum bid on a popular gun-related item. i checked him out before i bought; he had successfully sold on forums prior to his Gunbroker debut.

thanks for the reminder that thieves walk on the same road as we.

I wonder why Armslist doesn't just block Africa entirely. My company does. We block all of the former Soviet Union countries, all of africa, all of china, the phillipines, and large swaths of the middle east. Just doing that cut fraudulent orders by over 90%.

I'm sure one of them would figure out how to use proxies or VPNs and share that with their ilk. It's super easy tech now with a quick download a couple clicks. I connect to a UK VPN to watch Top Gear, among other things.
